On the outskirts of a college town, Lucia and Liliana, two sisters, try to live together after Liliana is assaulted by a classmate. Xander Shanley, a local cop embroiled in recent incidents of police brutality, struggles with his responsibilities as an upholder of the law in these times. As she deals with Liliana’s nightly disappearances, Lucia finds Xander, and both embrace the distraction from how useless they feel in the face of injustice and uncertainty. But Liliana has found a way to make her trauma useful, and no one’s prepared for what she has in mind.

The End of Incorporated Filth by Chloe Hayat and Directed by Galia Backal explores the burlesque scene in the late thirties after anti-LGBTQ and Sex-Censorship laws affect the community.

West Side Story at Bay View Music Festival
Galia is thrilled to announce that she will be Directing and Choreographing the Bay View Music Festival's production of West Side Story July 11 - 13, 2019. The production will include students from Bay View's acclaimed Opera Conservatory as well as Latinx actors from NYC and Michigan community members. The Festival lays claim as the longest continuously operating chamber music festival in the United States and continues to offer additional training, perspective, refreshment, and the inspiration needed to pursue a career in the arts. The Emerging Artists Theatre New Work Series
After a successful workshop as a part of Danspace Project's Residency, Galia's devised ensemble Community Snacks will be premiering A Very Girly Story as a part of The Emerging Artists Theatre's New Work Series Fall 2018. A Very Girly Story is an immersive, participatory sleepover play that explores friendship, intimacy, and how women learn and grow. The performance will take place October 12, 2018 at 9pm at Tada! Danspace Project Residency
This is the first public presentation for Galia's devised ensemble Community Snacks. The ensemble's goal has been to investigate the patriarchal and capitalist conventions at the core of American theatre, and create a piece that is deeply feminist, intersectional and wholly new. From this goal, they have created the first draft of a feminist theatre piece that explores what it means to be a woman today.
This presentation is a part of NYU Tisch's Danspace Residency 2018.

Galia will be assisting Estefania Fadul's production of ROKERA the musical at LPAC's Rough Draft Festival.

Brooklyn-born Lulu, Mickey, and Bella want to be superstars, but they also want to go to college, and date, and go crazy because that's what you do when you're 18. When Lulu's mom decides to go back to her native Colombia for mysterious reasons, Lulu's world is turned upside down. Mickey and Bella come to Lulu's aid, but soon they're facing problems of their own. Rokera is about growing up and growing tough; a transformative rock musical.

Galia acted as the Assistant Director for The Drama League's Benefit Gala Honoring Steve Martin. The gala included a musical revue honoringSteve Martin's career with Broadway stars and award winning guests including Kermit the Frog, Judith Light, Kevin Kline, Ed Helms, Carol Kane, Lea DeLaria, Jennifer Simard, Alex Brightman, Justin Guarini, Lauren Worsham, and Orfeh.
